So... I Moved to Warsaw

Anyone who has ever moved from one place to another can tell you that the process can be both exciting and challenging.

Moving to a different city—and then to another country—takes it to the next level.

I didn’t move to another country, nor am I planning to anytime soon, but I did move to a different city—Warsaw.

But… why? And what are my impressions after nearly a week in this city?

Let me tell you!

👨‍💻 I Changed My Job

I found a new job opportunity related to actuarial science in Warsaw.

The job is hybrid, so I need to be in the office a couple of days a week. Moving to the city was the only feasible option because commuting from Krakow every week would be too costly and tiring.

📚 I Want to Grow in the Actuarial Field

So, I changed my job, and now I’ll be working at one of the biggest Polish insurance companies.

Here, I can meet many professionals who are already actuaries, have worked in the insurance industry for many years, and have knowledge I wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else.

I find that very exciting, and I’m eager to learn from these experienced people!

This can be extremely beneficial because passing actuarial exams alone doesn’t give you the practical knowledge needed for everyday work in insurance.

🏙️ I Want to Discover New Places

Beyond work and personal development, living in Warsaw is exciting because I get to discover a new city from scratch. I had lived in Krakow since I was born, so I knew most of the city well—how to get around, where to eat or dance, and where the nearest gym was.

In Warsaw, however, I know only a few things—where the main tourist spots are, how to get to my job, and how to get back to my flat. The process of figuring out where the nearest gym or grocery store is, finding a favorite restaurant, or discovering nice places to walk can be exciting—and to me, it is!

Together with my girlfriend, we’re adapting to this new city. I hope that in the process, we’ll also connect with new people and build lasting relationships.

Ok, so these are the main reasons why I moved to Warsaw.

But how does it feel to be here?

  • I feel excited and ready for new challenges,

  • The whole moving process was exhausting, no doubt about that. I moved with my girlfriend, and I think it’s easier to settle into a new place together. I’ve received strong support from her and our families,

  • I also heard many kind words from my friends and colleagues at my previous job. They gave me motivation and hope that everything would turn out well,

  • Of course, the first days at a new job were challenging, and probably will be for a few more weeks. I’m learning new things and getting to know the company and the people who work here.

But with strong support from those closest to me, a clear purpose, and set goals, I believe I made a good decision. I’m happy to be in Warsaw, with a new job, a new environment, and new challenges.

Final Thoughts

That’s it—I’m in a new city! Now you know my three main reasons for moving and how I feel after the first few days.

Have you ever moved to a different city or country? What were your reasons for moving? Or maybe you’re in Warsaw and would like to meet up? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear from you!
